Overview
The State of Illinois is committed to making sure that the State is a safe haven for everyone in need of accessible and equitable healthcare, including reproductive healthcare. To ensure access the Reproductive Healthcare Benefit Program will reimburse eligible employees for some costs associated with the need for themselves, or their dependents, to travel outside of their state of residence to access reproductive healthcare.
Eligibility
The Reproductive Healthcare Benefit Program is available to all active employees and retirees to cover some costs associated with accessing reproductive healthcare for themselves and their dependents who are required to travel to another state in order to access reproductive healthcare.
The travel for reproductive healthcare must be final before expenses are eligible for reimbursement. If spouses are both State employees, only one reproductive healthcare benefit is available per instance.
Eligible Expenses
The following expenses are eligible for reimbursement:
- Transportation costs to travel to a state outside of their state of residence to secure reproductive healthcare.
- Lodging costs necessary to secure reproductive healthcare in a state outside of their state of residence.
Benefit Amount
The Reproductive Healthcare Benefit Program reimburses eligible expenses up to a maximum of $1,000 per incident. All reproductive healthcare benefits are subject to Medicare and social security taxes. The travel and/or lodging expenses submitted for reimbursement will be vetted to verify that the travel and lodging coordinates with the reproductive healthcare treatment received. Receipts of eligible expenses must be submitted to the Illinois Department of Central Management Services.
Reimbursement Documentation Requirements
- Receipt indicating payment for the travel and/or lodging expenses.
- Employee's name, address and telephone number.
- The request for reimbursement must be received within one (1) year from when the reproductive healthcare treatment was received
