Travel Update 26-02
TO: Agency Travel Coordinators
FROM: Raven A. DeVaughn, Chairman
DATE: August 1, 2025
SUBJECT: Lodging Four (4) or More Nights
The Governor’s Travel Control Board (“the Board”) recognizes some State of Illinois employees may require lodging for four (4) or more nights during the end of the legislative session, an extended veto session, a lame duck session, the Illinois State Fair, or the DuQuoin State Fair. During these events, those employees may choose to utilize apartment style/extended stay hoteling. The Board acknowledges that the daily rate for this type of commercial lodging will often exceed the maximum reimbursement rate currently provided for by the Board. Therefore, the Board will look favorably upon stays of 4 or more nights during the events listed above as a valid exception request. The total cost to the State will remain a factor in the Board’s analysis when approving exception requests related to this Travel Update and employees are encouraged to inquire with multiple properties, when applicable, in order to obtain the best rate available for the extended stay. In order for the Board to approve the exception request, the employee must submit their request to the State Travel Coordinator, and receive confirmation from the Travel Coordinator, via email, prior to check-in.
As the appointed Travel Coordinator for your agency, it is your responsibility to disseminate this information to all appropriate personnel within your agency. If you have any questions, please contact the State Travel Coordinator, CMS.Travel@Illinois.gov.
