Pursuant to 80 Ill. Admin. Code Sections 3000.300(f)(2) and 2800 Appendix A, reimbursement for use of a private vehicle while traveling on official government business shall be on a mileage basis, and shall be at the rate established by the Federal General Services Administration (the “GSA”). On December 21, 2016, the GSA announced that the mileage reimbursement rate will decrease from 54 cents per mile to 53.5 cents per mile effective January 1, 2017.
This Travel Update shall serve as official notice to state agencies and employees that this decrease will be take effect on January 1, 2017, and will apply to all travel occurring on or after January 1, 2017.
In sum, the State of Illinois’ mileage reimbursement rate for the use of personal vehicles will decrease from 54 cents per mile to 53.5 cents per mile effective January 1, 2017.
